Vishal Lamba is a research scientist who earned his PhD at the University of Tennessee (Tennessee Health Science) in 2008, but worked in a different region ever since, doing the vast majority of his research at the local hospitals while earning his post doctorate qualifications at the prestigious health institution. As an expert in genetic biology and the famous Human Genome Project, we can safely say that the plan fascinated him.
The Human Genome Project started at the beginning of the last century, in 1911. Alfred Sturtevant, who was an undergraduate researcher in the laboratory of Thomas Hunt Morgan, figured out that he could map the locations of the fruit fly’s genome. The very first gene mapping in history was a significant moment, based on several experts’ opinion, a grandiose moment up there with the Wright Brothers’ first flight, or the Apollo program, which managed to send two American astronauts to space, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.
20,500 Human Genes
Thanks to the Human Genome Project, not only that the scientists now know that there are approximately 20,500 genes, but they actually understand many of the inner workings that can be associated with those genes, including the location of the sequences. The full sequence was – almost after 100 years – completed in 2003, although some people remained skeptical about the findings.
